Hayao Miyazaki Reportedly Working on New Film After Oscar Win

Goro Miyazaki, son of Hayao Miyazaki, revealed in an interview with Japanese holding company Oricon that the 83-year-old Studio Ghibli co-founder is creating paintings for a new film. The announcement came during a preview of an exhibition on 'The Boy and the Heron' at the new section of the Studio Ghibli Museum in Tokyo. Goro stated that after a seven-year hiatus before working on 'The Boy and the Heron,' his father had been making exclusive paintings for the museum based on past films. Goro suggested he create works for future projects, and Hayao is now producing new, unprecedented pieces. Goro described the upcoming film as an action-adventure, nostalgic, and reminiscent of older works. Speculation about a sequel to 'Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind' has circulated for some time. 'The Boy and the Heron' won an Oscar in 2024 and grossed $173 million globally, becoming Miyazaki's biggest commercial success. Details of the new project remain confidential.
