Hayal Pozanti's New York Exhibition Blends Nature and Her Invented Language

Turkish artist Hayal Pozanti presents 'The World For a Mirror' at Timothy Taylor in New York, featuring paintings inspired by her Vermont surroundings and her self-created language system. The exhibition runs until May 27, 2023. Pozanti's works, such as 'Off To Dream Farther Away' (2023) and 'The Ever Returning Roses of Dawn' (2023), depict New England flora and fauna with vibrant colors and sinuous forms. She employs a stick painting technique, applying pigments directly to create immediacy and permanence. Pozanti's practice also includes 'Instant Paradise,' a language of 31 glyphs corresponding to English letters and Arabic numerals, used to translate thoughts into visual poetry. A major work, an 85 x 17-feet mural with 95 medium-density fibreboard motifs, is installed at the New York Public Library's Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library. The new series filters sketches of nature into paintings, emphasizing subconscious expression over her alphabet's order. Pozanti, a Yale MFA graduate (2011), explores the relationship between painting tactility and the digital realm.
