Hauser & Wirth Hong Kong Hosts Major Lucio Fontana Survey

Hauser & Wirth Hong Kong presents 'Lucio Fontana: Spatialism. Pioneering the Contemporary' from September 17, curated by Luca Massimo Barbero. The exhibition concludes a trilogy that began in 2020 in Los Angeles with 'Ambienti spaziali' and continued in New York (2022–2023) with sculpture. It focuses on Fontana's Spatialist period, from the 1949 'Buchi' (holes) to the iconic 'Tagli' (cuts), including 'Quanta' (1959–1960) and 'Nature' bronzes (1959–1960). The show explores Fontana's redefinition of painting, sculpture, and space. Concurrently, Hauser & Wirth Publishers releases the first monograph on Fontana in simplified Chinese, edited by Barbero with texts by Maria Villa, including manifestos and writings translated into Chinese for the first time. Silvia Ardemagni, President of Fondazione Lucio Fontana, emphasizes reaching new audiences through translations. Hong Kong's selection underscores East Asia's growing role in the art world; Hauser & Wirth has recently shown Maria Lassnig and Louise Bourgeois there.
