Hauser & Wirth Debuts in Berlin with Société Collaboration During Art Week

Swiss mega-gallery Hauser & Wirth will present its first Berlin project through a collaborative group show with local gallery Société, opening September 11, 2025, during Berlin Art Week. Titled 'States of Being,' the exhibition runs through November 1, 2025, and features over thirty artists from both galleries' rosters, including Nairy Baghramian, Louise Bourgeois, Cindy Sherman, and Pipilotti Rist. The show explores the complexity of the human condition across fragility, violence, identity, and roles through an intergenerational dialogue. The partnership stems from the friendship between Hauser & Wirth CEO Marc Payot and Société CEO Daniel Wichelhaus, reflecting a growing trend of collaborative strategies among art market players in Berlin. Hauser & Wirth has no immediate expansion plans in the city but aims to showcase its artists in Berlin's research-oriented and experimental scene. The exhibition coincides with Berlin Art Week (September 10–14, 2025), which, alongside Gallery Weekend, anchors the city's art system, involving over 100 museums, galleries, collections, and independent spaces, as well as the 12th edition of Positions Berlin Art Fair at Tempelhof Airport. Germany's reduced VAT rate of 7% on art sales further incentivizes the move.
