Hashemi-Nezhad and Aman Design Logma Cafe in Hackney
Designer Bahbak Hashemi-Nezhad and architect Farrokh Aman have completed the interior of Logma, an Iranian-Iraqi cafe in Hackney, east London. The 32-square-metre space on Goldsmiths Row is owned by Ziad Halub and Farsin Rabiee, evolving from a supper club series launched in 2024. Drawing on the designers' Iranian heritage, the interior evokes traditional Middle Eastern bistros without pastiche. Hashemi-Nezhad focused on atmosphere over space, reinterpreting elements like lace curtains, mirrors, chandeliers, and furniture through a contemporary lens. Custom fixtures include a pistachio-coloured bar and cherry wood table by Jones Neville, plus lighting by Hashemi-Nezhad made from molten glass on steel frames. A large oil painting by Carlos Bellido Flores adorns the space. The cafe seats 18 at a communal table and bar, with a utilitarian prep kitchen downstairs. The project evolved through a soft launch, allowing organic additions. Hashemi-Nezhad and Aman, both of Iranian heritage, collaborated for the first time on this project.
