Harvard Business School Debuts Bourgeois and Wurm Sculptures in Outdoor Exhibition
Harvard Business School's long-term outdoor exhibition project, launched in April 2016 and running through 2018, has added works by Louise Bourgeois and Erwin Wurm to its temporary sculpture park on the Boston campus. The program features loans from foundations, private galleries, an anonymous donor, and Kate Chertavian Fine Art. Bourgeois's 'Eye Benches I and II' (1996–1997) are granite eye-shaped benches originally commissioned by the Seattle Art Museum for the Olympic Sculpture Park. The artist described them as exploring voyeurism and perception. Wurm's 'Big Disobedience' presents two empty suits standing upright, referencing Henry David Thoreau's 1849 essay 'Civil Disobedience' and critiquing contemporary society. The work debuted at Art Basel Miami Beach in December 2016. Other pieces on view include sculptures by Jaume Plensa (on loan through November 2017), Mary Frank, John Safer, and Joel Shapiro from the permanent collection.
