Hartwig Fischer Named British Museum Director, Succeeding Neil MacGregor in 2016

In Spring 2016, Hartwig Fischer will take on the role of director at the British Museum, succeeding Neil MacGregor, who is retiring after a 13-year tenure. Fischer is presently at the helm of the Dresden State Art Collections, which comprises 14 museums and four institutions across four cities, showcasing artifacts that date back over 5,000 years. His past experience includes leading the Folkwang Museum in Essen from 2006 to 2012 and acting as curator for nineteenth-century and Modern art at the Kunstmuseum in Basel from 2001 to 2006. This appointment was officially revealed on 29 September 2015.
