Harry Grundy's Sandpaper Drawings Created at 3,000RPM

exhibition · 2026-05-12

Harry Grundy, an artist, has created a series of drawings on sandpaper, with some pieces made using belt sanders at an impressive 3,000 RPM. This project started in 2024 when Grundy found a box of sandpaper sheets in the shed of Steve Wing, a woodworker who is the father of his father's oldest friend, Dave. Intrigued by the unique sandpaper types, like the soft blue Japanese sheets and translucent Spanish orange paper, he took them to a two-week residency in New Hampshire led by Bianca Roden. His artworks, featuring earthy shades from various woods, were displayed in "Full Pelt" at The Incubator Gallery in London, curated by Angelica Jopling. A selection will also be shown at New Art Projects in Islington starting April 23, 2026. Grundy finds the manual process to be a refreshing break from technology.
