Harbour Front Literaturfestival Announces 2026 Debut Prize Shortlist

The Harbour Front Literaturfestival has unveiled the shortlist for its 2026 Debut Prize, honoring outstanding German-language literary debuts. The six nominated authors and their works are: Katrin Zipse with "Moosland" (DuMont), Martin Piekar with "Vom Fällen eines Stammbaums" (Rowohlt Hundert Augen), Oliwia Hälterlein with "Wir Töchter" (C.H. Beck), Son Lewandowski with "Die Routinen" (Klett-Cotta), David Vajda with "Diamanten" (Hanser Berlin), and Maja Zade with "Wand an Wand" (Matthes & Seitz). The prize is endowed with €10,000 and recognizes first novels that excel in linguistic power, narrative independence, and literary quality. On September 20, 2026, the six nominees will present their debuts at the NICA Jazz Club Hamburg as part of the next.gen: new voices program, where the jury will make its final decision and honor the winner. The Harbour Front Literaturfestival 2026 takes place from September 19 to October 11 in Hamburg, featuring international bestselling authors, debutants, politicians, artists, and scientists across more than 20 venues for readings, discussions, concerts, and special formats.
