Harald Klingelhöller's Sculptural Language at Serralves and Galerie Nelson-Freeman

exhibition · 2026-04-23

Harald Klingelhöller's exhibitions at Museu Serralves in Porto (July 13–September 30, 2007) and Galerie Nelson-Freeman in Paris (January 12–February 29, 2008) presented both a retrospective and new creations, emphasizing the relationship between sculptures, their surroundings, and the audience. Over the past twenty years, Klingelhöller has integrated letters and, since 2005, words into his sculptural practice. The Porto display included suspended sculptures from 1999–2000 and aluminum pieces from 2001–04. In the Paris venue, a floor installation of three glossy black steel plates referenced a 1992 piece. Most works were Cabinet Versions (initiated in 2005), featuring wall-mounted elements and partially open "drawers." Titles such as "Das Meer bei Ebbe getraümt" encourage viewers to engage with physicality and imagery. The accompanying text was written by Éric de Chassey.
