Hao Jingban Wins 2019 Han Nefkens ARCOmadrid Video Art Award

The Han Nefkens Foundation has named Chinese artist Hao Jingban the recipient of its 2019 ARCOmadrid Video Art Award. She receives €15,000 to create a new video work inspired by Felix González-Torres's clock piece, Perfect Lovers. This commission will debut at Matadero Madrid during ARCOmadrid 2020 before touring internationally. Hao is recognized for her Beijing Ballroom project, which documents ballroom culture from the 1950s to the present. A jury including Han Nefkens, Ana Ara of Matadero Madrid, Manuel Segade from Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo, Sunjung Kim of the Gwangju Biennale Foundation, and Rein Wolfs of Bundeskunsthalle selected her. Shortlisted artists were Karimah Ashadu, Manuel Correa, Aziz Hazara, Polina Kanis, Ross Little, Jorge Scobell, and Wong Ping. ArtReview Asia previously featured Hao as a 2017 Future Great.
