Hans Rickheit's 'The Squirrel Machine' Debuts in Italian Translation
Hans Rickheit, an American artist with decades of experience in art, audiovisuals, comics, and self-publishing, sees his first work printed in Italy: 'The Squirrel Machine', originally published in the US in 2009. The graphic novel is set in an anonymous 19th-century New England town and follows brothers Edmund and William Torpor, who from childhood are drawn to strange, unsettling creations. They spend their days experimenting with unknown technologies, building bizarre musical instruments from animal carcasses scavenged in woods and trash. Pushing the limits of reality, the Torpor brothers encounter strange nightmares and multidimensional worlds. The book, described as visionary, blends mysterious machinery, ancestral rituals, and aberrant vocations, showcasing Rickheit's extreme imagination. It was previewed at Napoli Comicon and arrives in Italian bookstores on May 4. Published by Eris Edizioni, Torino, 2017, 192 pages, black and white, €17, ISBN 9788898644360.
