Hannes Peer's 'Core' Collection for SEM Blends Digital and Handcrafted Wood
Architect and designer Hannes Peer has launched the 'Core' collection for Italian brand SEM, comprising eight pieces in solid mahogany, rosewood, and cherry. Inspired by Louise Nevelson's stacked wooden assemblages at MoMA, as well as the work of Pierre Chapo, Leroy Setziol, and Jean Touret, the collection features abstract, carved facades. Peer, born in South Tyrol, aimed to center handiwork but used 3D design and CNC milling for precision, with a master craftsperson finishing each piece by hand and applying a beeswax finish. The collection includes a monumental pedestal cabinet, a dining table with a diamond-shaped base, and two wall-hanging panels. It is presented at the Spotti Milano showroom in a stripped-back setting titled 'Hardcore', conceived with SEM founder Claudio Spotti, from 18 April 2026.
