Hannah Lees' 'The Oldest Thing You Can Hold In Your Hand' at Workbench Milan
At Workbench in Milan, 27-year-old British artist Hannah Lees presents 'The Oldest Thing You Can Hold In Your Hand', curated by Pietro Di Lecce. The exhibition runs until October 29, 2016. Lees integrates her work with the space through a mimetic and synthetic itinerary, confronting the ritual of decay and the fixity of representation. Traces on linen made with discarded vegetables transform the exhibition table into a laid table with spelt, wheat bread, red wine, and glasses, inviting viewers to partake in transience. Each vegetable and physical element becomes a transactional object, activating exchange with imperceptible transformations. Around the table, new works deconstruct the project through a continuous search for material restitution to a synthesis of nature and materials resulting solely from human progress.
