Hangar Sbit-In: New 300 sqm Art and Design Space Opens in Santena

In Santena, near Turin, the interior design company Sbit-In has converted an adjacent 300 sqm space into Hangar, a new exhibition venue for art and design projects. The company, founded in 2007 after restoring an early-1960s industrial building, operates a 1,200 sqm showroom featuring top Italian design brands like Moroso, Zanotta, Kartell, and Serralunga. To celebrate its tenth anniversary, owners Maria Concetta Bilotta, Francesco Bilotta, and Gianna Serratore inaugurated Hangar. The inaugural show, curated by Elena Inchingolo, is a solo exhibition of Tommaso Tosco (born 1957 in Santena), a ceramist and multidisciplinary artist. Titled "In-Between," it presents his early ceramic installations from the 1980s alongside recent works in corten steel. Tosco, a collaborator and friend of Nanni Valentini, learned ceramic techniques and culture from him. He is also an avid fan of contemporary music, citing John Cage's "Landscapes," the new wave sounds of Talking Heads, and Morton Feldman's experimental compositions. His work combines formal rigor and essentiality with material experimentation. Francesco Bilotta stated that Tosco's "experimental harmony of forms" embodies the company's vision of tradition, dialogue, and innovation.
