Hangar rojo: Chilean film about military resistance to Pinochet wins at Málaga
Chilean filmmaker Juan Pablo Sallato's first feature, 'Hangar rojo,' had its world premiere at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival and garnered several accolades at the Málaga Film Festival, such as the Critics' Award, El País Audience Award, and Silver Biznagas for Best Actor (Nicolás Zárate) and Best Editing. The narrative is set in Santiago on September 11, 1973, centering on Captain Jorge Silva, who is tasked with converting the Aviation School into a detention facility. Inspired by Fernando Villagrán's book 'Disparen a la bandada,' the film delves into the oppression faced by officers resisting Pinochet's coup. Silva, who rescued cadets, passed away in London on August 19, 2024, just before filming commenced. The film has a runtime of 81 minutes.
