exhibition · 2026-04-20

The Hammer Museum has announced the selection of 30 artists from Los Angeles for its fifth biennial exhibition, Made in L.A. 2020: a version, which will take place from June 7 to August 30, 2020. The exhibition will feature artworks at both the Hammer Museum and the Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens, along with off-site projects by Larry Johnson, Kahlil Joseph, and the multimedia platform SON. Curators Myriam Ben Salah, Lauren Mackler, and Ikechukwu Onyewuenyi conducted nearly 300 studio visits to organize the show. According to Hammer director Ann Philbin, the featured artists delve into Los Angeles's overlooked histories and subcultures, showcasing the city's vibrant contemporary art scene. Notable participants include Mario Ayala, Aria Dean, and Kandis Williams, among others. Three awards will be presented: the Mohn Award ($100,000), the Career Achievement Award ($25,000), both selected by a jury, and the Public Recognition Award ($25,000), determined by public voting at both locations.
