Hamiltons Gallery Opens 'Up Close' Photography Exhibition for Photo London

Hamiltons gallery in London presents 'Up Close,' a group exhibition of photography masters including Helmut Newton, Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, Daido Moriyama, Erwin Olaf, Hiro, Herb Ritts, Horst P. Horst, and William Wegman. The show, timed with Photo London and running through May, explores intimacy and proximity in photography. Works on view include Newton's 1991 portrait of Cindy Crawford for American Vogue, Avedon's 1959 image of Brigitte Bardot later used by Andy Warhol, and Irving Penn's 'Cottage Tulip' from a series spanning 1967-2000s. Gallery founder Tim Jefferies curated the selection as if for an art fair booth, emphasizing the importance of engaging physically with photography. The exhibition also marks Hamiltons' approaching 50th anniversary and photography's upcoming bicentenary. Horst's 1949 photograph 'Steer's Hoof, Runs of Persepolis' is noted for its depiction of historic Iran. 'Up Close' is on view until 30 June 2026.
