Half Die Festival: Private Rooftop Electronic Music Event in Rome
The Half Die Festival, now in its 26th edition, is a unique private electronic and experimental music festival held on the terrace of a loft in the Mandrione district of Rome. The event is entirely funded by its host, Giovanni Rosace, a tax consultant and passionate music enthusiast who covers all costs for his own pleasure, rejecting any form of patronage. Despite being a private event, it is open to the public and free of charge. The festival launched on July 10, 2022, with a performance by Dutch group University Challenged, founded in 2019. The program continues through late July with artists including Valentina Magaletti, Julia Reidy, and Resplandor. The location remains secret, with Rosace stating that those who seek will find. The terrace overlooks a Roman aqueduct and is below an air corridor. Inside the loft, a large aquarium houses tropical fish (symphysodon and freshwater rays) in a biotope replicating Amazonian tributaries, reflecting Rosace's passion for nature. Over the years, the festival has hosted international acts such as Demdike Stare (Manchester), KVB (UK), and Sam Amidon (US). Rosace emphasizes the event's convivial spirit, avoiding commercialization by keeping it free and open, attracting a diverse audience rather than the usual concertgoers.
