Hales Gallery Presents 'Staging Resistance': Queer British Photography of the 1980s

Hales Gallery is set to present 'Staging Resistance', an exhibition dedicated to the groundbreaking contributions of Tessa Boffin, Rotimi Fani-Kayode, and Sunil Gupta from the 1980s, a crucial era for Queer British photography. This exhibition aligns with several significant institutional initiatives: Sunil Gupta's retrospective 'Life with a Camera, 1970 - Now' at Kettle's Yard in Cambridge, UK (September 2026 - January 2027); 'Where We Touch the Archive', a traveling project on Tessa Boffin by Devonshire Collective in Eastbourne, UK (July - September 2026); and Rotimi Fani-Kayode's participation in 'Project a Black Planet: The Art and Culture of Panafrica' at Barbican Art Gallery (through September 2026), which will also travel to the Art Institute of Chicago, MACBA Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona, and KANAL-Centre Pompidou Bruxelles.
