Haldane Martin's Scaffold tables merge Japanese bamboo scaffolding with stainless steel
South African designer Haldane Martin has launched the Scaffold collection of outdoor occasional tables, released through his eponymous Cape Town-based brand Haldane. The tables are constructed from intersecting stainless steel rods welded together at precise overlaps, inspired by the strength and efficiency of Japanese bamboo scaffolding. Based on repeatable square modules, the system allows for low coffee tables or high side tables in various sizes. The design combines brutal rationality with Japanese refinement, featuring rounded rod ends to prevent snagging. The brand describes the tables as sculptural yet practical, with light passing through the negative space of the identical rods. Available in polished stainless steel or powder-coated in 30 colours.
