Hair Love short film nominated for Oscar

Matthew A. Cherry's animated short 'Hair Love' has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. The film, which tells the story of an African-American father learning to style his daughter's curly hair, was funded through a Kickstarter campaign in 2017 that raised over $300,000—a record for short films on the platform. It was released in theaters by Sony Pictures alongside 'The Angry Birds Movie 2' and went viral online. The story was also adapted into a bestselling children's book in the United States.
