Hackatao and Blondie release NFT for Warhol's birthday
On August 6, 2021, the 93rd birthday of Andy Warhol, the Italian crypto art duo Hackatao (Sergio Scalet and Nadia Squarci) released "Hack the Borders," the first in a series of animated digital artworks, in collaboration with the legendary New York punk rock band Blondie. The work is a crypto art tribute to Warhol's 1985 digital portrait of Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry, created on a Commodore Amiga. Released via the Nifty Gateway online auction platform, the piece features a musical accompaniment by guitarist Chris Stein and a poem written and recited by Debbie Harry. Hackatao's style overlays Harry's face with drawings representing inner demons and hidden voices. The release date also coincides with the birthday of Hackatao's Sergio Scalet. The collaboration marks a convergence of punk rock and crypto art, with Debbie Harry stating she was fascinated by technological innovation and honored to commemorate Warhol on his birthday. Chris Stein noted that Warhol, who embraced modern technology, would have coined the term "Warhol NFT."
