Gwangju Biennale 14th edition reveals initial artist lineup with 80 global participants

The 14th Gwangju Biennale is set to commence on 7 April 2023, showcasing around 80 artists from around the world, with Sook-Kyung Lee as curator. The theme, 'soft and weak like water', draws inspiration from Daoist philosophy. This event will continue until 9 July 2023 and will feature more than 40 new projects and debuts. Among the first artists revealed are Larry Achiampong, Abbas Akhavan, Farah Al Qasimi, and Tarek Atoui, among others. The exhibition highlights works by Korean artists, underrepresented women artists, and those reflecting personal experiences, organized into four segments: 'Luminous Halo', 'Ancestral Voices', 'Transient Sovereignty', and 'Planetary Times', while addressing Gwangju's history and the challenges of modernism.
