Gurgel D'Alfonso Arquitetura Renovates São Paulo Apartment Matisse

architecture-design · 2026-08-13

The Apartamento Matisse, a 360-square-meter residence in the Moema neighborhood of São Paulo, Brazil, has undergone a complete renovation led by architects Caio D'Alfonso and Rogério Gurgel of Gurgel D'Alfonso Arquitetura. Originally built in the 1990s, the apartment featured a layout with pronounced angles, level changes, and strong compartmentalization. The renovation aimed to transform these complexities into fluidity, light, and integrated living spaces. The project, completed in 2024, was curated by Susanna Moreira and photographed by Arthur Duarte. Key suppliers included Reynaers Aluminium, +55 Design, Aalvo Gallery, Dpot, Monofloor, and Sollos - Jader Almeida. The design reflects a particular way of living that is connected, attentive, and sensitive to the passage of time.
