Gülsün Karamustafa to Represent Türkiye at Venice Biennale 2024
Gülsün Karamustafa will represent Türkiye at the upcoming 60th Venice Biennale, taking place from April 20 to November 24, 2024. Splitting her time between Istanbul and Berlin, her art explores important issues like modernization, displacement, memory, migration, and gender through various forms, such as painting, installation, and video. Her work has been featured in several biennials, including those in Istanbul, São Paulo, and Gwangju, and in esteemed locations like Hamburger Bahnhof and the National Contemporary Museum of Athens. The Türkiye Pavilion will be curated by Esra Sarıgedik Öktem, with Bige Örer emphasizing Karamustafa's themes in relation to the main exhibition, 'Foreigners Everywhere,' overseen by Adriano Pedrosa. İKSV organizes the pavilion, supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye.
