Gulìa Urbana: 10 Years of Street Art Revitalizing Calabrian Villages
Gulìa Urbana, the itinerant street art festival organized by the Rublanum collective, celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2022. The project, whose name derives from the Calabrian dialect expression meaning 'crazy desire,' focuses on community-driven urban regeneration. It aims to create free, open-air, site-specific and community-specific museums across small towns in Calabria. This summer, numerous municipalities hosted the festival, including Rogliano in the Savuto Valley, where artist Gera1 created a mural titled 'Proud'—a transfeminist statement against prejudice and binary stereotypes. The initiative emphasizes replicability and long-term engagement, turning temporary events into lasting shared experiences of local heritage.
