Guido Harari's photographic archive of Fabrizio De André unveiled in new book

publication · 2026-05-04

Photographer Guido Harari, known for his intimate portraits of musicians like Bob Dylan and Tom Waits, has released a new book titled "Sguardi randagi" (Rizzoli, 2018, 256 pages, €45) that opens his entire archive of Fabrizio De André. The volume follows three previous books and a co-curated exhibition at Palazzo Ducale in Genoa, featuring contributions from Fernanda Pivano, PFM, and Beppe Grillo. Harari describes his two-decade collaboration with De André as one of fascination and eventual complicity, where photographs emerged spontaneously from shared time rather than formal work. Iconic images include De André lying by a radiator in Bologna (1979) during the PFM tour, and candid shots of Dori cutting his hair or De André in bed surrounded by books. Harari, who also runs the Wall Of Sound gallery, emphasizes an emotional, empathetic approach over stylistic signature. The interview appears in Artribune's "Who is Who" series, conducted by Elena Arzani.
