Guido Guidi's Sardinia photographs published by MACK

publication · 2026-05-04

MACK, in collaboration with MAN Nuoro, has released a box set of Guido Guidi's photographs taken in Sardinia in 1974 and 2011. The set includes three volumes: one for the 1974 trip and two for the 2011 return, plus a booklet with texts by Luigi Fassi, Irina Zucca Alessandrelli, and Antonello Frongia. Guidi traveled to Sardinia in 1974 with his wife Marta and friend Maurizio Predasso in a Fiat 127, studying maps and histories beforehand. The black-and-white images focus on spatial research consistent with his poetic approach, featuring people, animals, houses, and details. In 2011, he returned with John Gossage, both producing significant work. The box set's covers display Guidi's route drawings from both years. The project highlights Guidi's role as a director of the operation, with a horizontal reading for the 1970s images and vertical for the later ones. The history of Sardinian photography includes earlier work by Leopold Wagner and August Sander in 1927, which Guidi knew.
