Guido Crepax retrospective 'I mille volti di Valentina' opens in Aosta
The Centro Saint-Bénin in Aosta will host 'Guido Crepax. I mille volti di Valentina' from June 11 to October 17, 2021. The exhibition, curated by Alberto Fiz in collaboration with Archivio Crepax, features over 100 works including unpublished archival documents, record covers, design objects, clothing, screens, advertising studies, and large three-dimensional games. It explores the multifaceted art of Guido Crepax (Milan, 1933–2003), creator of the iconic character Valentina, who first appeared in 1965 as a secondary character in the sci-fi comic Neutron on the magazine Linus. Valentina, a fragile, sensual, emotionally unstable woman prone to hallucinations and dreams, was inspired by a fusion of Crepax's wife Luisa and actress Louise Brooks. The exhibition also highlights other female characters created by Crepax: Belinda, Bianca, Anita, Giulietta, and Francesca. It examines Crepax's influences on and from cinema, theater, literature, photography, television, and art, including works dedicated to Kandinsky, Moore, Magritte, and Manet (with a transgressive version of Olympia).
