Guglielmo Castelli's 'Crociere Estive' at Galleria Sylvia Kouvali

Guglielmo Castelli's exhibition 'Crociere Estive' (Summer Cruises) opened at Galleria Sylvia Kouvali in Piraeus, Athens, in late July 2026. The gallery, housed in a former bazaar with ecclesiastical heights, retains its industrial and liturgical character. Castelli presents paintings, collages on found fabrics, and seven suspended 'Idoletti' that explore themes of constrained nature, childhood without innocence, and the tension between escape and enclosure. The works incorporate lace, ropes, pearls, and small relics, depicting swans on leashes and figures in tight uniforms. The exhibition is conceived as a total artwork where painting, objects, costumes, architecture, and memory converge. A text by Marta Papini, written in first person from a childhood memory of a storm-battered beach, serves as an emotional threshold. The show reflects a deep collaboration between Castelli and gallerist Sylvia Kouvali, who previously ran Rodeo gallery. The exhibition references writer Michela Murgia's idea of an incomplete horizon. The gallery space is located in an industrial area of Piraeus, described as an eternal construction site with dramatic Mediterranean light.
