Guggenheim UBS MAP Initiative Debuts in London with Latin American Art
The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum launches its first major UK collaboration, partnering with South London Gallery to host Under the Same Sun: Art from Latin America Today. This is the second of three exhibitions under the Guggenheim UBS MAP Global Art Initiative, a multi-year acquisition program that has purchased over 125 works worldwide. The show runs June 10–September 4, 2016, and features around 40 newly acquired works curated by Pablo León de la Barra. It also offers a preview of the gallery's new space, Peckham Road Fire Station (built 1867), donated by an anonymous benefactor and set to fully open in 2018. Richard Armstrong, director of the Guggenheim, praised the South London Gallery as an ideal collaborator. Side events include residencies by Tania Bruguera and a UK premiere of Alfredo Jaar's A Logo for America in central London.
