Guggenheim Bilbao online course bridges science and art
The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao launches an online course titled 'Las dos culturas: ciencias y artes' (The Two Cultures: Sciences and Arts), starting April 27, 2026. The interdisciplinary program explores the historical separation and recent convergence of scientific and artistic fields, referencing C.P. Snow's 1959 'two cultures' lecture, Nuccio Ordine's 'The Usefulness of the Useless' (2013), John Brockman's 'third culture', and the 1996 Sokal affair. Taught by chemist and science communicator Deborah García Bello, the course spans five modules over three months, featuring 15 video classes. It examines collaborations between artists and scientists, citing works by Verónica Moar, Isaac Díaz Pardo, Luis Seoane, Ángela de la Cruz, Anselm Kiefer, and Jeff Koons. The course complements the museum's earlier online offering 'Lo que cuentan los materiales en el arte moderno y contemporáneo'. Enrollment is open via the museum's website; fees are €80 for the general public and €64 for museum Friends. A certificate is awarded upon completion.
