exhibition · 2026-04-27

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao has announced its 2023 exhibition calendar, featuring six major retrospectives. The season opens with 'Joan Miró. Absolute Reality. Paris, 1920–1945' (until June 4), focusing on the artist's formative years in Paris, his shift from magical realism to a personal vocabulary of floating signs, and his interest in prehistoric art. 'Oskar Kokoschka. A Rebel from Vienna' (March 17–September 3), co-organized with the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris, traces the Austrian painter's career from early emotionally charged works to his post-exile radical style, highlighting influences on Egon Schiele and his relationship with Alma Mahler. 'Lynette Yiadom–Boakye' (March 31–September 10) presents the British artist's dramatic figurative paintings with animals and a curated playlist, alongside new charcoal works from 2020–2023. 'Yayoi Kusama: 1945 to Now' (June 27–December 8) assembles nearly 200 works across media, exploring themes of infinity, accumulation, and biocosmic connection. 'Picasso Sculptor. Matter and Body' (September 29–January 14, 2024) examines Picasso's sculptural practice, focusing on the body and material experimentation. 'Gego: Measuring Infinity' (November 3–February 4, 2024) surveys the German-Venezuelan artist's career from Geometric Abstraction to Post-Minimalism, supported by the Fundación Gego.
