Guerrero and Sawyer to Co-Curate 2026 Whitney Biennial
Marcela Guerrero and Drew Sawyer have been appointed co-curators of the 82nd Whitney Biennial, opening spring 2026. Guerrero, the DeMartini Family Curator at the Whitney since 2017, organized the museum's first major Puerto Rican art survey in 2022. Sawyer, the Sondra Gilman Curator of Photography, joined the Whitney last year and oversees its photography collection. His debut exhibition at the Whitney, a solo show for Mark Armijo McKnight, opens this month. Guerrero previously worked at the Hammer Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Sawyer was at the Brooklyn Museum and has taught at Columbia, Yale, and Ithaca College.
