Guendalina Salini's Fragments and Arabesque at Hilton Rome Eur La Lama
The Hilton Rome Eur La Lama, designed by Massimiliano Fuksas with interiors by Lorenzo Bellini Atelier and owned by Icarus S.p.A., has launched LamArte, a contemporary art project curated by Valentina Ciarallo. The inaugural exhibition, Fragments and Arabesque by Guendalina Salini (Rome, 1972), runs until December 1. Salini's work explores human identity using cardboard, a humble material she transforms through a distinctive carving technique. The exhibition includes a site-specific installation in the 60-meter-high lobby, where large blue-pigmented cardboard sheets with arboreal motifs hang like drapes against marble walls. In the Library, Fragments features smaller works referencing Attic vase tradition, juxtaposing ancient forms with contemporary food packaging. A series of paintings incorporates gold leaf to enhance three-dimensionality. Ciarallo noted the contrast between cardboard's humility and the hotel's opulent materials. Salini's practice critiques consumer society and emphasizes regeneration.
