Guendalina Salimei curates Italy Pavilion at 2025 Architecture Biennale with TERRÆ AQUÆ
Guendalina Salimei, founder of Rome-based Tstudio, won a two-phase public call issued by the Direzione Generale Creatività Contemporanea del MiC in October 2024 to curate the Italy Pavilion at the 19th International Architecture Exhibition. Her project TERRÆ AQUÆ. L’Italia e l’intelligenza del mare was selected from ten finalists by Minister Alessandro Giuli, who praised its focus on the sea as "original humus and common destiny." The pavilion will explore the boundary between land and water, addressing infrastructure, coastal defense, ports, and railways. Salimei received nearly 600 proposals via an open call, a process she compares to Aldo Rossi's 1985 approach. The exhibition will feature a wunderkammer-like installation designed with Studio Giammetta, including videos and multimedia, highlighting ongoing projects and hidden archaeological areas. Salimei emphasizes collective effort and sustainability, aligning with Carlo Ratti's circular economy manifesto for the Biennale.
