Gucci Resort 2022-23 Show at Castel del Monte

Gucci presented its Resort 2022-23 collection at Castel del Monte in Puglia, Italy, on May 16, 2022. Creative director Alessandro Michele used the 13th-century castle as a cosmological stage, referencing philosopher Walter Benjamin's concept of fashion as a 'tiger's leap into the past.' The show featured a mix of historical and subcultural references, including jester-like stripes, punk leather, Berber piercings, and Byzantine filigree headpieces. Michele's notes cited Benjamin and Hannah Arendt, who fled Nazi-occupied France. The collection marked seven years of Michele at Gucci, with a more restrained yet melancholic style. Patrizia Calefato, a fashion studies professor at the University of Bari, called the castle the perfect place for Michele's vision. The show included projections, light beams, and Apollo 11 mission audio.
