Gucci Places App Merges Fashion, Culture, and Technology
Gucci has launched Gucci Places, a smartphone app that identifies iconic locations tied to the brand, starting with Chatsworth in Derbyshire. The app, created with art director Alessandro Michele, alerts users within 70 km of a Gucci Place. It builds on Gucci's sponsorship of "House of Style: 500 Years of Fashion at Chatsworth," curated by Hamish Bowles, Patrick Kinmonth, and Antonio Monfreda. The exhibition features clothing, accessories, photo albums, collages, and vintage jewelry alongside new Gucci luxury items. The Cavendish Serpent motif appears throughout, linking the exhibition to Gucci designs. Chatsworth, one of England's grandest estates, has a history with fashion, including portraits by John Singer Sargent and works by Lucian Freud, as well as fashion photography by Cecil Beaton. The project aims to expand to other locations, supporting artistic and historical preservation while attracting new audiences. Gucci's connection to British culture was previously highlighted by a show at Westminster Abbey. The collaboration with the Devonshire family, second only to the royal family in aristocratic hierarchy, is set to last three years.
