GU.PHO Festival: First Edition of Vernacular Photography in Modena

The first GU.PHO, the International Festival of Vernacular Photography, recently concluded in Modena, Italy, led by Sergio Smerieri and Giorgia Padovani. The festival featured a mix of exhibitions, discussions, tastings, and book launches that explored the world of analog photography from recent history. Ten artists participated, including both Italian and international talents like Irma Bors, Angelo Camillieri, and Marco Trinchillo. Standout pieces included Erik Kessels' "Carlo e Luciana," showcasing double portraits, and Ivana Marrone's "Ri-scatti," which reinterprets found photos. Other highlights were Smerieri's "Kitchen Essentials," Trinchillo’s seascapes, Treggiari's humorous "FOTOgrafie," and Grabowski's impressive collection of over 200 images of women on swings from flea markets. The festival aimed to offer a fresh take on traditional photography, ending with excitement for the next event.
