Gruppo Nanou on Miles Davis, Color, and Performance at Ravenna Festival

Italian dance company Gruppo Nanou, fresh from their debut at New York's La MaMa Theater in April, will perform 'We Want Miles in a silent way' at Ravenna Festival on June 26 at Teatro Alighieri. The piece engages with Miles Davis's jazz structure rather than his notes, sharing a sense of instability. Artistic director Marco Valerio Amico explains that the company 'cannibalized' Davis's method, translating it into choreographic production through dialogue between sounds, lights, spaces, and bodies. The work features a male dancer in tango shoes, representing 'the figural' in abstract composition. Collaboration with chromatologist Daniele Torcellini explores how color creates space, altering perception and body attitude. The New York Times listed the show among ten must-see performances in New York. For Ravenna, Bruno Dorella will perform live on stage. The company includes dancers Carolina Amoretti, Rhuena Bracci, Marco Maretti, and Chiara Montalbani, with sound by Roberto Rettura and Bruno Dorella, and lighting by Amico, Fabio Sajiz, and Torcellini.
