GRT Architects unveils exuberant tiled facade for Bad Roman Beverly Hills

architecture-design · 2026-05-29

GRT Architects, a Brooklyn-based firm, has unveiled Bad Roman Beverly Hills, marking the second location for the vibrant restaurant brand by Quality Branded. Set to open this month, the establishment is housed in a traditional Los Angeles bowstring-truss-framed structure. The former beige brick exterior has been transformed with wavy green stripes, while glass-block windows are bordered by a checkerboard of natural stone and glossy green-and-yellow tiles. The windows are adorned with glowing red neon serpentine designs and the handwritten Bad Roman logo. Inside, the ceiling trusses feature sound- and light-absorbing tinted natural cork. Collaborating with local neon artist Danielle Bonnet, GRT Architects incorporated tendrils from Graniglia sconces into chandeliers. Faux-painted bas-relief snakes by Calico Design Manufacturing rise from tiled walls, and a neon-necklaced boar sculpture, inspired by a marble piece in Florence's Uffizi Gallery, welcomes guests. Founders Tal Schori and Rustam-Marc Mehta described the design as an 'evolution' of the original New York venue, tailored to capture Beverly Hills' exuberant spirit. The pair have been acquainted with Quality Branded's founder, Michael Stillman, since their college days.
