Groupe UNTEL Revisits Tourist Performances at Galerie mfc-michèle didier

exhibition · 2026-04-24

From November 20, 2015, to January 16, 2016, Galerie mfc-michèle didier in Paris showcases 'L’Art d’être touriste,' presented by the French group Groupe UNTEL, which operated between 1975 and 1980. This exhibition revisits their performances from 1978 at the Louvre and in Cahors, where members Jean-Paul Albinet, Philippe Cazal, Alain Snyers, and Wilfrid Rouff donned 'Le Populaire' overalls marked 'Touriste.' They orchestrated a fashion show at the Louvre, shifting focus away from art history. The display also recalls their 1977 critique of consumerism at the Musée d'Art Moderne and their 1978 sale of urban refuse, featuring original garments, limited edition 'chemise touriste' shirts, and a pop-up shop to further their commentary on consumerism and artistic practices.
