Group Show of Women Artists Opens in Biella
A group exhibition titled 'ContemporaneA ‒ Artiste si raccontano' has opened at Palazzo Ferrero and Palazzo Lamarmora in Biella, Italy, curated by gallerist Irene Finiguerra. The show spans sixty years of art by women, featuring rare works such as two small pieces by Maria Lai, Bice Lazzari's 'Presenza' (1954), Carol Rama's 'Aurattristatrici' (1968) inspired by napalm victims in the Vietnam War, and Irma Blank's 'Radical Writing Exercitium' (1988). Also on view are works by Kiki Smith (a lithograph titled 'Born' reinterpreting Little Red Riding Hood), Silvia Levenson (glass works on domestic violence), Elizabeth Aro (velvet sculpture 'Branches'), and younger artists Anna Di Prospero, Natalia Saurin, Marta Pujades, and Alessandra Maio. The curator cites Alice Neel's quote: 'Art doesn't care if you are a woman or a man. What you need is talent and you have to work like crazy.'
