Group Show 'L’anno della scimmia' at Galerie Emanuel Layr in Rome

The group exhibition 'L’anno della scimmia' at Galerie Emanuel Layr in Rome's Trastevere district features five artists—Juliette Blightman, Lena Henke, Benjamin Hirte, Niklas Lichti, and Matthias Noggler—who explore the influence of consumer goods on daily life. The show suggests that such goods transform individuals into trained monkeys. Matthias Noggler's paintings ironically and cynically depict isolation imposed by heavy use of technological devices. Ropes drawing the gaze to the center of the room evoke Amazonian jungle atmospheres. Niklas Lichti's intervention accentuates ambiguity between observer and observed, screen and real experience. Juliette Blightman's gouaches adopt an unusual viewpoint to offer new perspectival glimpses of the London cityscape. The exhibition runs from March 2017.
