Group Exhibition THE END at Vogt Gallery Explores Finality Through Diverse Mediums

exhibition · 2026-04-22

From January 6 to February 25, 2012, Vogt Gallery in New York City hosted THE END, a group exhibition curated by Michael Bühler-Rose and John Connelly. Thirteen artists contributed works examining notions of conclusion, whether as termination or catalyst for new beginnings. Sabrina Mansouri's silkscreen Untitled 2 (2007-2009) reinterprets On Kawara's date paintings with an Ouija board layout, while Ruby Sky Stiller's Nude in Parts (2011) evokes Henry Moore's forms in a post-cubist arrangement. Matthew Higgs displayed found book covers alongside Amber Brown's untitled large books splayed on the floor. Arthur Ou presented an untitled 2012 C-print of a Zen-like scene, contrasting with John Divola's vibrant Zuma #70 image. Van Hanos contributed a baroque-style oil painting, and Kota Ezawa offered an animation of The Beatles. Keith Mayerson's King Kong (2004) and Kamrooz Aram's Conference (2011) were installed adjacently, with Luke Stettner's Tributary (suspended) (2012) acting as a demarcation line. The exhibition, though thematically loose, was praised for its thoughtful installation, highlighting how context enhances individual pieces. Located at 526 West 26 Street, 9th Floor, between 10th and 11th avenues, the show suggested a pessimistic view of art as derivative, yet underscored the power of collective presentation.
