Group exhibition 'The Electric Comma' explores human-machine encounters at V-A-C Foundation in Venice
Between 26 November and 31 March, the V-A-C Foundation in Venice hosted 'The Electric Comma', a group exhibition co-curated with the Kadist foundation, showcasing 27 artworks. This exhibition examined the relationship between contemporary art, the machinic sublime, and human interactions with technology. Shannon Ebner's 2011 video Dear Reader tackled the impact of language in the age of AI. Dara Martin's 2004 16mm film Soft Materials featured dancers alongside deep-learning robots. Pedro Neves Marques's 2016 video depicted a robotic hand gently touching a Mimosa pudica plant. Fabien Giraud and Raphaël Siboni recreated the setting where IBM Deep Blue triumphed over Garry Kasparov in May 1997. Funded by Leonid Mikhelson, the exhibition linked algorithmic capitalism and climate change against the backdrop of Venice's sinking landscape.
