Group exhibition 'La Fabrique du temps' explores time through geology, genealogy, and material decay
At Galerie Dix9 Hélène Lacharmoise in Paris, the group exhibition 'La Fabrique du temps' (Act I) runs until July 5, 2020, with Act II planned for autumn. Curated by Maud de la Forterie, the show brings together six artists—Leyla Cardenas, Karine Hoffman, Katia Kameli, Vincent Lemaire, Sebastian Riemer, and Paula de Solminihac—who each tackle the representation of time through different media. Colombian artist Leyla Cardenas extracts urban ruins and architectural fragments, printing photographs of decaying facades from Bogotá and Tbilisi onto translucent, frayed textiles to evoke the erosion of memory and social transformation. Paula de Solminihac presents terracotta sculptures shaped like books, layering them as poetic strata. Sebastian Riemer enlarges vintage photographs, such as a soldier portrait, to reveal physical scars, tape, and repairs, magnifying the object's own history. Vincent Lemaire creates photograms of broken fluorescent tubes superimposed onto 24×36 negatives of ancestors, generating ghostly portraits that collapse genealogy into a universal, radiant memory. The exhibition emphasizes geological and genealogical approaches to time, with works arranged in grids that reject hierarchical lineage. Karine Hoffman and Katia Kameli also contribute to the collective exploration of temporal layers.
