Group Exhibition at Vermilion Sands Explores Gentrification Through Architecture and Alienation

exhibition · 2026-04-20

From May 5 to June 16, 2018, the artist-run gallery Vermilion Sands in Copenhagen's Nørrebro district presented the group show 'Uptown High Rise No. 2'. The exhibition showcased creations by Mette Hammer Juhl, Lorenzo Tebano, Henning Lundkvist, Tessa Lynch, Asta Lynge, and Heine Thorhauge Mathiasen. The exhibition's title alludes to J.G. Ballard's 1975 novel 'High-Rise' and the nearby Nordbro student housing. Mathiasen's piece 'butternutbottomup. betternot' (2018) features reclaimed desktops, while Lynch's 'Umbrellas (Remembered)' (2016) includes welded metal frames and a video. Lundkvist's work 'Old Plans' (2018) consists of exhibition maps and a publication, and Juhl and Tebano's video 'Are you still here' (2018) examines urban alienation and displacement during car journeys.
