Grosseto Exhibition Revisits Realism with Guttuso, Levi, and Maremma
The exhibition titled 'Il tempo del realismo. Guttuso, Levi, Treccani e altri artisti maremmani' is currently on display at Polo Culturale Le Clarisse and Palazzo della Provincia in Grosseto, Italy, until September 6, 2026. Curated by Livia Spano and Luca Quattrocchi, it reflects on the 1955 'Rassegna di pittura realista' held by the communist local government. Centered around the 1954 Ribolla mine disaster, the showcase features works from Renato Guttuso, Carlo Levi, and other artists. It comprises three parts: the evolution of realism after Liberation, the Maremma art scene circa 1955, and historical photographs. With support from the University of Siena, the exhibition seeks to link the struggles of past miners to current workplace challenges.
